Baggy pants foil getaway … lol

Full story

The officer fired at Uzowihe as soon as he pointed the gun, striking the young man twice, police said. Jackson and another witness, Julia Kelly, said Uzowihe fell because he couldn’t keep his baggy pants on his waist.

“He was running pretty fast,” Jackson said. “The only thing that messed him up is he was trying to pull his pants up.”

Said Kelly: “I bet he won’t wear baggy paints again.”

I’m quoting this article because it all went down yesterday afternoon 1 block from our loft building in downtown Atlanta. Fun times in the Big City I say.

Diaper Games

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

When I got into the Jeep this morning I immediately noticed a rather punjent odor emanating from within the cab. Looking over I noticed a large bag containing several poo-filled diapers sitting on the passenger seat. My wife, in an attempt to pay me back for hiding a similar poo-diaper in her center console this weekend, decided to up the ante a bit with her own retaliation.

Fortunately, she has a guilty conscious and couldn’t bring herself to hide them all over my Jeep.

Happy Belated Birthday to Me!

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Birthday CakeAnother year - another birthday come and gone (8/22/72).   The unfairness of it all – the older I get, the quicker each year seems to fly by.  I guess my accelerated return to the diapers from whence I came is balanced by getting to watch my little girl grow up – I can’t believe she’ll be a year old in less than 4 months!

Anyway, this year’s birthday was perfect – dinner with M&M at a small hole-in-the-wall resturant somewhere in the bowels of Poncey-Highland, icecream cake at the house, and a couple of cool gifts in no particular order:

  1. A pair of shirts from [The Longboard House]
  2. Apple’s [ iPhone Bluetooth Headset]
  3. Factory Renewed [Tivo HD DVR]
  4. Contour’s [iPhone Hardskin case] – Mel convinced an Apple employee to let her buy one before general release!
  5. A pair of [PMAGs by Magpul] for my AR15

Yup. A great birthday indeed.

Stone Mountain, GA – Summit Trail

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Sunday 8/17/08
Trip: ~3 miles
Elevation: 1686ft (max) 1025ft (min) 761ft (total accent)
Time: 1h 11m
Temperature: 85 F
Wind: Light breeze
Conditions: Clear, hummid, no precipitation
Pack Weight: <10lbs (day hike)

Summary:

This is one of my “workout” tracks I like to do at [Stone Mountain State Park]. You launch straight up right from the trail head and don’t stop until you reach the public pavilion at the summit (refreshments and bathrooms available). Unlike [Kennesaw Mountain], the entire track is over natural granite exposed on the mountain’s western face. Technically, it’s an easy hike with little or no boulder scrambles but it can be taken at any speed with as much or as little pack load as you want so it offers a versatile workout for all levels.

Olympic Rowing

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Congratulations to the U.S. Women’s Open 8+ for taking Gold! Thanks to a timely phone call from my wife Melissa last night, I was able to catch the Women’s Open 8+ Olympic final on TV. It’s probably been 7+ years since I’ve watched a regatta so it brought back a flood of memories from my own rowing/coaching days. It was awesome watching 3 of the 6 crews race [Empacher shells], including the U.S. Women!

They led through the 1000m mark with almost a half a boat length over Canada and never looked back. Both Mel and I were waiting for the Canadians to gain water during the last 500m but their charge never materialized as the U.S. Women held on (at one point they almost had Canada past their coxswain) to win by almost a 3/4 boat length. I believe their winning time was 6:05.24. For comparison, the winning Men’s Open 8+ was 5:25.11 (the U.S. Men took Bronze in that race, loosing to Canada).

MSNBC has a recap and videos of all the Olympic rowing races [here] if you have no idea what Rowing is.
